New York City hosted one of the most anticipated weddings of the year. Billionaire pop star Taylor Swift and NFL tight end Travis Kelce tied the knot at Madison Square Garden on July 3. This coveted wedding between the two stars resulted in special arrangements from the city officials and widespread criticism as well.

“I think this is a dramatic misuse of public resources. I think it’s insane. I think it’s a bad look,” popular Twitch streamer Hassan Piker said in his live.

According to CNN, the Swift-Kelce wedding is estimated to cost a whopping $20 million.

In the live session, watched by over 27,090 people, the commentator expressed his disagreement with the couple’s decision to marry the way they did. Per reports, Swift and Kelce are hosting multi-day celebrations from July 2 to July 4 at the iconic stadium.

For their high-profile yet private wedding hosting a barrage of A-listers, the NYPD stepped in to ensure security. Forbes reported that the guest list spanned 500 to 999 people on July 3. Winick Productions filed permits to close the streets around the wedding venue from the night of July 2 to July 4.

An NBC report stated that an NYPD officer was reportedly holding a folder labelled “Taylor Swift & Travis Kelce wedding” outside Madison Square Garden. The authorities did not comment on the matter per the report.

As the stadium lay reserved for the wedding with exclusive arrangements outside it, many spectators agreed with Hasan’s take on the wedding.

Fans call out Swift and Kelce for their wedding

Under a July 4 X post sharing a clip of Hasan Piker criticizing the wedding, fans banded together. They shared their sentiments on the wedding and its implications for the public.

“this is so tacky and ostentatious I don’t understand why people have big weddings, but I can’t hate, she donated to a lot of charities. I want the smallest wedding possible, I don’t really get this,” one commented on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s choices.

According to reports, the couple donated around $26 million to 20 charities before their nuptials. These charities are located in Nashville, where Swift’s career began; Kansas, the home of Kelce’s NFL team; and New York.

“The Bezos wedding was gross but at least it was tasteful, This is even worse, gross and tacky,” one replied.

They compared this wedding to billionaire Jeff Bezos’s wedding to Lauren Sanchez held in Italy last year.

“During a heatwave in one of the busiest places in the country. She’s so evil (crying emoji),” one wrote about the inconvenience caused to the people in and around the vicinity of the wedding.

“It shouldn’t be controversial to say this. At all. It’s the truth,” a reply doubled down on Hasan’s views.

One reply, however, backed Swift and Kelce, citing their high-profile status.

“like sure it makes sense because of how and when they met. but theyre not any other couple!!!”
