Former Tennessee Titans great Chris Johnson recently revealed some unsettling news. He was a guest on Good Morning America that aired on June 29, where he talked about his ALS diagnosis.

The news of his disease naturally became viral on social media, with many sending in their prayers for the former running back. Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes was one of them. He posted his heartfelt message on X, wishing Johnson a speedy recovery.

"Man… Praying for CJ2K," wrote Mahomes on June 29.

Mahomes' post shows how much of an idol Johnson truly was to many looking to find their way in the NFL. Johnson is known as one of the most dominant running backs in recent league history. Over his 10‑year career, he earned three Pro Bowl selections, one First‑Team All‑Pro, and the 2009 Offensive Player of the Year award.

In the 2009 season, he ran for over 2,000 yards, which earned him the moniker CJ2K. After a highly successful career, he retired after the 2017 season. Now, Johnson has a personal battle of his own to deal with.

"I first noticed weakness in my right hand," said Johnson. "At first, it was little things like my grip didn't feel right, and I wasn't as strong as I've always been. It's continued to progress much faster than I ever imagined. I want people to understand just how quickly ALS can attack your body."

For the unversed, ALS is a progressive neurodegenerative disease. It starts with muscle weakness and loss of some bodily function. It can also cause breathing problems and, in the worst-case scenario, can also lead to d****.

Just like Mahomes, Johnson's former employers in Tennessee were also quick to show their support.

Tennessee Titans family extends support to Chris Johnson

Johnson spent six seasons (2008–2013) with the Tennessee Titans. During that time, he pulled off 7,965 yards and 50 touchdowns. He also earned three straight Pro Bowl selections (2008–2010). Naturally, the Titans acknowledge his influence on the field.

Titans owner Amy Adams Strunk took to X to talk about Johnson's influence.

"Some people leave a mark on an organization that you just can't put into words. Chris Johnson is one of those people for us," read the message. "His leadership on the field, in addition to his impact in the locker room and Nashville community have written him permanently into the story of this franchise. Learning this news is extremely difficult, and we will support Chris every step of the way throughout his journey."

ALS, also known as  Lou Gehrig’s disease, has taken a lot of people under its grip. Before Johnson, 1985 Super Bowl winner Steve McMichael, San Francisco's Dwight Clark, and Atlanta Falcons' Tim Green have all dealt with this disease.

McMichael and Clark both lost their lives to this disease. Johnson knows that he has challenges up ahead, but he is confident. He has even issued an open challenge to ALS with an innovative move.

"Take the #CJ2K Ice Bucket Challenge, challenge 3 friends, and donate to the BeCause Fundraising Community benefiting ALS research," said Johnson on Good Morning America. "If you’re able, tag me so I can share your videos. Let’s turn this moment into a movement and fight to end ALS."

CJ2K is not willing to give up that easily, and that shows his tough mentality.
