After a disappointing last season that saw both the Kansas City Chiefs and Kansas City Royals miss the playoffs, Patrick Mahomes gave Kansas City fans a reason to smile again with a public appearance alongside his son, Bronze, amid his injury recovery.

Last Friday, the Royals faced the Detroit Tigers at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City in a regular MLB season game, and the father-son duo was in attendance.

Upon their arrival, the cameras quickly turned on them, and a wave of cheers erupted in the “The K” ballpark.

Reciprocating to the fans' enthusiasm, they both waved back at the fans from the stands.

The precious moment was also captured and shared by the MLB’s official X handle.

This appearance means a lot to Chiefs fans, as their star quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, is set to return from a season-ending injury, trying to make it in time for the Week 1 game.

After sustaining ACL and LCL injuries while playing against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15, Mahomes underwent immediate repair surgery and was prescribed a rehab that was termed as “way ahead of schedule”, per Bleacher Report.

According to recent updates from head coach Andy Reid, fans can expect him to take a limited role in the OTAs, which run from May 26-28, per the 2026 NFL OTA schedule.

"He is in a good position to be able to do some things," Reid revealed in early May. "If he can do some things, [he'll do it]. Phase 2 [of the offseason program], remember, there's no contact, and there's no offense versus defense. It's Phase 3 that you get into that. ... He's in a position where he can do everything, I think."

Now, all eyes are on Mahomes' return for the 2026 NFL season.

Patrick Mahomes’ Latest Appearance Signals Progress in Recovery

Ahead of the 2026 NFL season, Patrick Mahomes' public appearance gave the Kansas City Chiefs fans another encouraging sign during his ACL recovery process.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Mahomes is already making strong progress toward his return.

“He's already made great progress from that torn ACL injury,” Schefter said. “He certainly is tracking to be ready for the start of the regular season,” Schefter said on SportsCenter. “That's going to be his goal.”

Before his injury, Mahomes had recorded 3,587 yards and 22 touchdowns in just 14 games in 2025. Previously, ESPN’s Nate Taylor also reported that Mahomes could participate in OTAs in a limited capacity.

Kansas City is hoping to return to its Super Bowl-contending standard after missing the playoffs in 2025 for the first time in a decade.

Considering this, Mahomes’ recovery remains central to those expectations heading into the 2026 NFL season.
