The Kansas City Chiefs have spent the offseason fixing their defense. For a second, it appeared that Patrick Mahomes was helping too by partaking in recruiting defensive end Cameron Jordon. However, the quarterback has said otherwise.

“I didn't do much recruiting. I leave that to vets and the guys. I think uh I think we recruit ourselves just by who we are. The only guys that can get off work that week, and so there were some good football players there, but I didn't do any recruiting,” Mahomes told reporters on May 28.

The 30-year-old was addressing a question about Jordon’s presence at the 15 and the Mahomies Vegas Golf Classic. The golf event is hosted by Mahomes annually. Jordon attending the event at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas fueled speculation whether the QB was involved in bringing the free agent to Kansas.

Jordon has played for the New Orleans Saints ever since they drafted him as the 24th overall pick in 2011. Last season, the 37-year-old recorded 32 solo tackles out of 47 total, 10.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

He is the Saints' all-time leader with 132 career sacks and could be the veteran presence needed to bolster the Chiefs' pass rush.

In 2025, the franchise ranked 6th in points allowed by allowing 19.3 points per game and 12th in pass defense by giving up around 195.8 passing yards per game. On May 27, KC Kingdom detailed the potential benefits of adding the veteran pass rusher.

“George Karlaftis hasn't lived up to his contract, Chris Jones isn't getting any younger, and Felix Anudike-Uzomah has been underwhelming,” Ernesto Cova wrote.

Chris Jones, 31, recorded 31 solo tackles and 7 sacks last season. Felix Anudike-Uzomah sat out the season after he sustained a hamstring injury. Meanwhile, the Chiefs have made a major change involving the 25-year-old George Karlaftis, which could pave the way for him in the team.

Kansas City Chiefs Have A Newfound Cap Flexibility

The Chiefs recently restructured George Karlaftis’ 4-year, $11.94 million rookie contract. According to Spotrac, the franchise converted around $9.68 million of his salary into a signing bonus. This created $7.7 million in cap space, and the Chiefs are $13.2 million under the salary cap.

“Notably, that type of financial flexibility puts them in a prime position to make a run at Cameron Jordon,” KC Kingdom wrote on May 27.

On the flip side, Level Field Media reported, via Spotrac, that this financial arrangement could be applied over signing their two first-round draft picks. Cornerback Mansoor Delane, who was the No. 6 selection from LSU, has an estimated first-year cost of $7.6 million. Former Clemson defensive tackle Peter Woods, pick No. 29, stands at $3.3 million.

While Cameron Jordon’s addition to the franchise would be beneficial, nothing is concrete yet. What are your thoughts on this situation? Tell us in the comments.
