NFL journalist shuts down Lamar Jackson trade talks with strong Jalen Hurts claim

This offseason, reporter Jason La Canfora proposed how the Philadelphia Eagles may target Lamar Jackson to upgrade the QB position. In response to the suggestion, A to Z Sports' Ryan Brown effectively shut any speculation down.

In an article for A to Z Sports, Brown laid out why Philadelphia is not going after Jackson based on the two quarterbacks’ playoff track records.

"Hurts is 6-4 in the postseason. Jackson, despite winning multiple MVP awards, is 3-5 and has a tendency to disappear when the stakes are the highest," Brown wrote via A to Z Sports.

The assertion in the AtoZ Sports report is based on results from January, which are the games that really characterize a quarterback's career.

Jackson has two NFL MVPs and is one of the most explosive players we have seen in the history of the regular season.

Still, Jackson's postseason completion rate is a very average 60.6% with 1,753 yards to his name. Even more interesting is a 10-to-4 touchdown-to-interception ratio, which appears weak compared to Hurts' 11-to-3 ratio in 10 games.

Hurts has taken Philadelphia to two Super Bowls and is two years younger than Jackson, who was injured a lot last season.

La Canfora presented the Jackson and Philadelphia scenario as more of an idea than a report.

Jackson recently said that he wants to be long-term in Baltimore. For Brown, that means offseason speculation is what it is, with nothing to show for it.

The offseason noise also means nothing for Jackson's value, either on the stage or in fantasy football, in 2026.

Lamar Jackson lands second in 2026 fantasy football QB rankings

Despite uncertainty about contracts & the postseason, rankings now place him No. 2 overall, behind only Buffalo Bills' Josh Allen and ahead of Jalen Hurts, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels, Joe Burrow, Jaxson Dart, Bo Nix, Matthew Stafford, and Brock Purdy.

Few quarterbacks can maintain elite production with a limited passing volume, but Jackson stays relevant because of his running, in spite of the game script.

"Hurts remains one of fantasy football’s safest options because of his rushing touchdown value and Philadelphia’s offensive structure," Glenn Erby wrote in his Ravens Wire report. "But Jackson offers a different type of ceiling. His rushing yardage can swing matchups, and his arm talent gives him the ability to attack defenses vertically."

Declan Doyle adds another layer to Jackson's 2026 projections as the new first-year Baltimore offensive coordinator.

If Baltimore’s passing game keeps improving under Doyle, the gap between Jackson and Allen at No. 1 could close quickly.
