The Red Raiders’ star quarterback, Brendan Sorsby, appeared to be closing the door on months of controversy, but the latest developments have only deepened the crisis surrounding his future in football.
As reported by Eric Edholm of NFL.com, the league has informed the clubs and aspiring collegiate players that the NFL will not be holding the 2026 NFL supplemental draft, per NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo.
"The League has not conducted such a draft for several years and, prior to your submission, the League had no plans to do so this year, as no other player has sought entry," the NFL's management council said in a letter to Sorsby, obtained by Rapoport.

This news has come as a shocker for Sorsby, as he quit collegiate football to pursue his aspirations of playing professional football in the NFL.
Based on the letter obtained by Rapoport, Sorsby filed his request just three business days before the deadline, without any supporting documents.
He also gave up the temporary injunction granted by Judge Ken Curry of the 99th District Court in Lubbock County, Texas, to avoid a potential ban from the NCAA for the 2026 season.
The letter also highlighted that his petition for acceptance into the NFL would require more time than he has asked for, since the issue of gambling is more serious and a fair ruling would not be given within the timeframe he has asked for.
The league also raised its concerns about Sorsby’s intentions of joining the NFL. According to them, he should have shown some effort by accepting his mistake and the resulting consequences.
There is still some hope left for Sorsby, but not in 2026.
Brendan Sorsby could still find a route back to football
The former Texas Tech quarterback can still pursue his aspirations of playing professional football, per the letter obtained by NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport.
"We encourage you to focus on preparing for possible entry into the NFL through the 2027 NFL Annual Draft," the league stated in its letter.
While issuing its verdict on Sorsby’s petition, the league noted that he could prepare for the 2026 season and appear in the 2027 NFL Draft to determine his potential home.
Just not this, but Brendan Sorsby could also apply to the Canadian Football League, whose season kicks off Thursday, and the United Football League.
This time, he was the only applicant in the supplemental draft, and it did not go well for him.
