NFL Insider Drags in Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert Amidst Jalen Hurts Drama

Jalen Hurts has been one of the most polarizing figures in the NFL recently. Despite his Super Bowl win in 2024, several critics are questioning his leadership within the Philadelphia Eagles' team and whether the organization should retain the former Super Bowl MVP to sustain their long-term success.
Experts have mixed reactions regarding the $255 million contract extension Hurts signed with the Eagles in 2023, raising concerns about his ceiling as a top-tier quarterback in the league. However, NFL insider Adam Schefter thinks Justin Herbert and Joe Burrow should also be in those conversations.
"What I find interesting, we've spent an awful lot of time talking about Jalen Hurts, right?" Schefter said on 97.5 The Fanatic. "And that's fair, I got it. Big deal, polarizing figure to an extent, but Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert did their contract two weeks after Jalen Hurts. Why isn't anybody asking why they're not extending yet?"
Burrow's and Herbert's contracts are also worth more than $200 million. But like Hurts, they also have three years left on their deals. Neither of them are facing the scrutiny that the Eagles QB is being put through.
Hurts has been to two Super Bowl appearances and won one of them. Burrow, despite having better numbers, is yet to take the Bengals there. Herbert is pretty much on the same boat. But Hurts' game hasn't been as flashy compared to the two of them.
The Eagles QB threw for 3,224 yards and 25 scores, but has QB rating of only 55.2%. Burrow has a QBR of 63.0, despite missing time due to injury. This is a big reason why Hurts is rumored to not get an extension
Moreover, an ESPN report on the presence of friction between Jalen Hurts and the Eagles is doing more damage. Sources said that he "pushed back" on scheme changes and that he was "not the most coachable" on the team.
If problems persist, the Eagles might look to another QB in the draft.
Will Philadelphia Draft Insurance Despite Having Jalen Hurts?
SportsRadio94's Spike Eskin proposed that the Eagles will still draft a quarterback in the first three rounds of the draft, because right now, the team isn't "sure" about Hurts. It is still too early to think about him not being in the picture, but there is precedent.
Hurts himself was drafted when Carson Wentz was still leading the charge in. When Donovan McNabb was QB1, the team drafted Nick Kolb. The new guys didn't replace them right away, but they were drafted as long term options.
And unless Hurts shows them something special, his backup might steal his spot sooner than planned.
Is Jalen Hurts still Philadelphia's answer at quarterback? Let us know in the comments.
