The Brendan Sorsby controversy has taken a new turn as questions grow over Cincinnati’s role in playing him during the 2024 and 2025 seasons. Now, the NCAA has been advised to investigate if the team knew about his betting activity and failed to act.
According to reports, agent Ron Slavin stated that if any team should be questioned in this matter, it should be Cincinnati. He claimed that Cincinnati knew about Sorsby’s betting situation for two years but did not do anything about it.
"Knew for two years," Slavin stated. “and never said anything or did anything about it.”

In light of this, Pro Football Talk's Mike Florio has advised the NCAA to explore this matter further in his latest article.
The controversy began after Brendan Sorsby was accused of placing wagers while he was on Indiana’s roster as a backup quarterback during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
According to reports, his activity included at least 40 wagers on Indiana football games, which raised concerns under NCAA rules.
Since NCAA rules do not allow college athletes to do this, the claims created concerns about Sorsby’s eligibility and whether he was allowed to play.
Cincinnati, however, stated that the school never knowingly allowed an ineligible player to play.
Cincinnati stated that it only received one alert on August 19, 2024, related to an attempted login and followed its usual process after Sorsby denied placing any wagers.
Beyond the controversy, Sorsby’s importance to Cincinnati also made the situation more serious as he recorded 2,800 passing yards, 27 touchdowns, and just 5 interceptions during the 2025 season.
His role as a key player makes the questions around his eligibility even more significant.
The focus has now shifted to Cincinnati’s handling of the situation. If the allegations are proven true, it could raise questions.
Along with this, attention has also shifted toward Brendan Sorsby and how the situation could impact his future in football and his position in the NFL Supplemental Draft.
Where Would Brendan Sorsby Go in the NFL Supplemental Draft?
The NFL Supplemental Draft could give Brendan Sorsby a chance to be picked higher than expected because of its different rules.
According to the draft process, teams will be divided into three groups based on their 2025 season records: teams with six or fewer wins, teams with seven or more wins but missed the playoffs, and teams that reached the 2025 playoffs.
Unlike the regular NFL Draft, teams will not pick one by one in order. Before each round, teams will place their bids, and the player will be selected based on the official priority order.
If a team wins its supplemental pick, there is a little catch. That franchise then gives up the same round pick in the next NFL Draft.
Sorsby is currently seen as a possible third-round pick according to NBC Sports, but if a team believes he can become a future starting quarterback, it may try to pick him earlier.
Some teams could even be ready to give up a possible low first-round pick in 2027 to select him sooner.
The situation keeps Sorsby in focus both for the ongoing NCAA questions and his future in professional football, while the outcome will depend on further review and what happens next.
