Becoming a father has changed life both on and off the field for Buffalo Bills quarterback. Josh Allen has shared that one meaningful family decision came from his wife, actress Hailee Steinfeld.

Allen and Steinfeld welcomed their daughter, Harper Haize Allen, on 2nd April. During an interview with E! News, he explained the couple had settled on the name well before their daughter's birth and made it clear that his better half, Steinfeld, deserved the credit.

"Yeah, it was the early on thought that we had, and it was my wife's idea,”  Allen said in the July 8 interview.

Allen did not go into detail about why they picked the name. When asked whether it carried a family connection or a deeper meaning, he smiled and said Steinfeld would be the better person to answer that question.

"Yeah. And now if I'm not in bed by 10:00, I'll feel like I'm dragging. So once that baby goes down, it's like I know they're going to be up early, so I got to get to sleep as soon as I can,” Allen said in the E! News interview.

The Bills quarterback has said that recovery and sleep now matter more than ever because every night depends on Harper's routine. He has adjusted his habits to ensure he is ready both for football and the responsibilities waiting at home.

Fatherhood is changing how Allen approaches Buffalo's 2026 season

Allen's new role as a father is shaping more than his home life. It is giving him a different perspective as Buffalo enters a season that features a new head coach, a new stadium, and fresh expectations.

He has said that becoming a dad has made him pay closer attention to recovery because the demands of football and family now go hand in hand.

While his preparation remains familiar, he says the reason behind it has shifted after welcoming his daughter.

“It’s to show this little daughter that me and my wife are trying to raise how hard you need to work to accomplish something so great, so I don’t think that the approach changes, but the why behind it does," Allen said as per PEOPLE

Since entering the NFL in 2018, Allen has grown into one of the league's most consistent quarterbacks. Over eight seasons with the Buffalo Bills, he has started 127 of 128 games.

"We've obviously got a new head coach, and so to have those memories being made in a new spot — and I think change is needed sometimes, especially when we've been close in the past," Allen added.
