New York Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart garnered headlines again this week after his recent appearance at President Donald Trump's rally at Rockland Community College in Suffern, New York, on May 22.
Following this, tensions briefly rose inside the Giants' locker room after teammate Abdul Carter publicly criticized Dart's appearance. Later, Dart, without being asked a single question yet, addressed the controversy head-on during a post-practice media session on May 29 at East Rutherford, New Jersey, where the OTAs are taking place.
“I asked that we talk about football after that. And I hope that, you know, we can understand and respect that from each other," said Jaxson. "Obviously, this was a unique opportunity, you know, being asked and given the opportunity to introduce the President of the United States."
This was indeed a unique opportunity, as he was one of two NFL players, the other being former RB Herschel Walker, who had introduced Trump onto the podium.
“I understand that in this world, politics can be a sensitive matter,” said Dart while addressing the fallout associated with the Trump rally. “I also understand that I am the quarterback of the New York Giants and that involves a lot of responsibility; it's under a microscope, and there's a lot that comes with that, and it's been something that I've embraced.”
The tension in the entire team was palpable as the OTAs were happening from May 19. Carter and Dart had to face each other in the locker room. However, that tension seems to have cooled down.
Abdul Carter Gives His Take On The Dart Controversy
Abdul Carter also spoke to reporters on May 29 after the OTA and explained why he felt compelled to respond publicly.
“Jaxson is one of our leaders - he's the face of our franchise. He represents himself and what he does, and he represents all of us. If he chooses to align himself with a man like President Trump, it's my responsibility based on what I believe and what I stand on to not only show my teammates that I'm against that, but to show the world,” he said.
Carter has publicly shared that he does not support Trump or his policies. However, with regard to Dart, the linebacker clarified his relationship with the QB after the controversy.
“I sit next to Jaxson every day - we're close, we talk. As long as we make sure we have the same goal as a team, and our goals align - which they do -that's all that matters. I just want to move past this,” he explained.
The controversy drew attention from head coach John Harbaugh, who addressed how the team handled the situation during OTAs.
"It was really a good opportunity for us as a football team to have these kinds of conversations around a real-life incident,” he said. He later concluded, “We're in a good place now, and we're moving forward.”
While opinions remain divided over Dart's appearance at the rally, both players have publicly stated their focus remains on football as the Giants prepare for the 2026 season.
