The NFL quarterback position has always carried immense importance in the sport. While several quarterbacks have been celebrated in the league for their overall success over the years, their performances have remained a topic of debate among fans. 

The term ‘overrated’ can be subjective and can spark plenty of debate among NFL fans. However, some quarterbacks have earned a level of recognition that has led to questions about how their career compares to their overall reputation. 

In light of that, here are the 5 most overrated quarterbacks in NFL history according to the article written by Ryan Rudnansky on Bleacher Report on November 23rd 2010. 

5. Eli Manning 

Manning played 16 NFL seasons as a quarterback for the New York Giants. During his tenure, he won 2 Super Bowls. However, his regular season statistics suggest he was overrated.

He came into the sport with the high expectations of the next big saviour. As a quarterback, Manning has an 84.1 QB rating for his career. From 2004-2010, he managed to complete only 58 per cent of his passes. 

4. Kerry Collins 

Collins played in 17 NFL seasons as the quarterback, bouncing between various teams such as the Carolina Panthers, New York Giants, and the Oakland Raiders. 

Despite playing for 17 seasons, double-digit interceptions showed up only in nine of those seasons. His QB rating stands at 73.8. 

3. Terry Bradshaw

Despite winning four Super Bowl rings, Bradshaw still made Rudnansky’s list of overrated quarterbacks. Terry Bradshaw played 14 seasons for the Pittsburgh Steelers and is considered a legend among the Steelers fans.

But his overall numbers tell a different story. His QB rating stands at 70.9, and he has five 20-plus interceptions, earning him the ‘overrated’ tag by the Bleacher Report analyst.

2. John Elway 

Elway spent 16 NFL seasons as the quarterback for the Denver Broncos, and while he is considered one of the greats, he has made the list of overrated quarterbacks. 

He spent nearly a decade to get to a star-worthy season in the league. He won two Super Bowl rings, but the three that he lost overshadow his wins. Elway closed his NFL career with a 79.9 QB rating. 

1. Joe Namath 

NFL Hall of Famer Joe Namath proves that winning league accolades doesn’t prove it all. Namath, who played for 13 seasons in the NFL as the quarterback for the New York Jets and Los Angeles Rams, has made it to the top of the list of overrated QBs.

During Super Bowl III, he predicted a 16-7 win over the Colts, which they did win. But it was rather due to the work put in by the defense. Namath threw for just 202 yards. 

Namath closed his NFL career with a 65.5 QB rating with only five 20-plus interceptions.
