Ex-49ers Star Makes Major Announcement After Failed NFL Career

Colin Kaepernick's NFL comeback may be over, but he is far from finished. The former 49ers star just made a major announcement about his next chapter. He is ready to tell his side of the story.
On April 7, former quarterback Colin Kaepernick took to X to promote his upcoming book, THE PERILOUS FIGHT.
“What would you sacrifice for what you believe in?” he wrote, “I gave up everything. And I'd do it again. THE PERILOUS FIGHT is the full story. The becoming, the moment, and what's still left to fight for.”
The two-time WAC Offensive Player of the Year was selected in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft by the 49ers, where he played for six seasons.
During his last season in 2016, he was recovering from three surgeries and was briefly benched mid-season in favor of Blaine Gabbert. He later returned as the starter, leading the 49ers to a win over the Los Angeles Rams, the team’s first victory of the year.
But in the opening of the 2016 preseason, he began sitting during the national anthem to protest racial injustice in the United States.
In the final preseason game on September 1, 2016, he chose to kneel rather than sit. He explained that the gesture was meant to honor former and current U.S. military members.
He was released in the offseason by new head coach Kyle Shanahan, who cited that Kaepernick didn’t fit his offensive scheme. Since then, no team offered him another shot in the NFL despite multiple comeback attempts.
Kaepernick, however, kept his voice alive through writing, releasing about six books before THE PERILOUS FIGHT.
“The world has been telling my story for ten years. It's my turn. THE PERILOUS FIGHT. September 15, 2026. Order now at the link in my bio,” He wrote on his post.
This time, he’s publishing his own POV of what unfolded during the 2016 NFL season.
A Deep Dive Into Colin Kaepernick’s Book
Hachette Book Group, publisher of THE PERILOUS FIGHT, featured an article on their website offering a glimpse into Colin Kaepernick’s book, including his experiences.
“When I took a knee, it wasn’t a sudden act. It was the result of years of becoming. And what came after taught me the most important truth: this fight has never belonged to one person. It belongs to all of us.” Kaepernick had said.
Even Krishnan Trotman, VP of Legacy Lit., praised Kaepernick’s movement.
“He was the catalyst of an undeniable movement that captured the attention and interest of the world.” He continued, “Colin is an inspiration to so many, and I know that readers, the world over, will be moved by his poignant memoir.”
It seems the book will be an inspiring and insightful read for his fans.
