Dak Prescott is embracing sky-high expectations heading into the 2026 season, declaring he has no intention of backing away from championship ambitions. As the Dallas Cowboys opened training camp, the veteran quarterback reflected on a dream he has carried since childhood.

"I said I'd be the quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys when I was 6 years old... A lot of things in my life, I said I'd do and I did it," Prescott said.

Dak Prescott's NFL career began when the Dallas Cowboys selected him in the fourth round (135th overall) of the 2016 NFL Draft out of Mississippi State University.

He made an immediate impact, winning NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year after throwing for 3,667 yards and 23 touchdowns while leading Dallas to a 13-3 record and an NFC East title.

Going into his 11th NFL season, he welcomes being held to the same standards he sets for himself and the team, Prescott tells ESPN NFL Nation's Todd Archer from the Dallas Cowboys' training camp in Oxnard, California.

This conviction has shaped Dallas' offensive mindset. During offseason workouts, Prescott introduced the acronym "GOTI" — Greatest Offense There Is — as a rallying cry for an offense that returns most of its core after finishing among the NFL's top units in 2025. He said teammates quickly embraced the slogan and the challenge behind it.

Prescott brushed aside suggestions that discussing lofty goals adds extra pressure. He stated that the Cowboys dictate their own future and shouldn't fear pursuing greatness despite consecutive playoff absences. In fact, he appreciates Jerry Jones’s approach to immediate victories.

The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Awardee Dak Prescott has praised Jerry Jones' aggressive approach to building a Super Bowl contender, backing the Cowboys owner's willingness to sacrifice part of the franchise's "future" to improve the roster now.

Entering his 11th season in Dallas, Prescott said the franchise's renewed urgency reflects the mindset needed to compete for a championship.

"I'm blessed to obviously be here 10 years... to see his mind and his urgency and him still wanting to do whatever he can to make this team better," Prescott said in the same ESPN report.

He added that Jones' commitment motivates the entire locker room because players are inspired to match that urgency.

Dallas has reinforced that philosophy with a series of bold moves over the past year, trading Micah Parsons while acquiring All-Pro defensive tackle Quinnen Williams, defensive tackle Kenny Clark and pass rusher Rashan Gary.

The Cowboys also traded up to draft safety Caleb Downs and signed veteran safety Jalen Thompson to the richest free-agent deal the franchise has awarded in more than a decade.

Prescott believes there is no reason to delay championship ambitions when both the front office and players are fully committed to winning immediately. He believes now is the time to pursue the championship vision he first imagined as a six-year-old.
