Caleb Williams “Got Really Frustrated” at Bears Minicamp After Struggling at Practice

Caleb Williams' frustration boiled over during the Chicago Bears' mandatory minicamp. A miscommunication on the field triggered a moment that revealed Williams' leadership approach

"I wasn't having the best practice, so I got really frustrated and [wide receiver] Kalif [Raymond] came up to me and said, 'Everybody is looking at you," said Williams. "That really resonated for me because that's been something from my first year to now, I want to be as stoic as possible, good, bad, or different. Not be too high or too low for the guys."

The issue that happened was largely because of an on-field mishap. According to ESPN's Courtney Cronin, Caleb Williams threw the ball that was caught by wide receiver Luther Burden III, who assumed he scored due to conflicting referee signals.

However, another official withdrew it. But Burden began celebrating as he saw the first TD signal.

As a result, Williams had to pull his receiver back in. Over here, it was Williams' leadership that shone through, as he led from the front.

The team naturally looked up to him, and once Raymond gave him that message, things became clearer.

Williams said his focus each day is on setting the tone for the rest of the team. As the quarterback, he understands that teammates look to him for stability, which is why he tries to remain composed and project confidence even amid struggles.

He added that maintaining that mindset is important not only for himself, but also for his teammates and coaches.

Last season, Williams backed up that leadership role on the field by setting a franchise single-season passing record with 3,942 yards while leading an offense that finished third in the NFL in scoring.

Bears coach Ben Johnson also gave his feedback on the training day incident.

Bears Head Coach Gives His Views On Caleb Williams

Chicago Bears head coach Ben Johnson gave his clear assessment of Caleb Williams, as per Courtney Cronin.

"We're all aligned on what we want a certain route to look like, where we want the ball to be thrown and so, you know, routes on air he can go out there and tell the receiver, 'Hey, you're missing your depth,' or 'Expect the ball to be at this spot.'" said Johnson,

Apart from the single error, there were some positives too. The chemistry between Williams and Burden combined well overall. They connected efficiently on a long pass in an 11-on-11 drill.

"Whether we're out there in a practice setting or he likes to keep those guys out there after and work a little bit more after practice," added Johnson. "I think he's stepped up, and he's continuing to get better every single day."

Johnson likes what he has seen from his quarterback and the fact that he is willing to take up more of the leadership role. Recording more than 7,000 yards and over 40 TDs since coming into the NFL, Williams has delivered for his team.

Johnson's views suggest the Bears are looking for more than production from Williams. As he enters another season, leadership and accountability appear to be just as important as what happens on the stat sheet.
