The Broncos recently finished with the Rookie Minicamp, and that was followed by some tough decisions. The Denver front office decided not to sign E.J. Warner, the son of NFL legend Kurt Warner.
This was after they brought him in for a tryout for their 90-man roster. E.J. was mostly brought in to be a camp arm for the long weekend. With Bo Nix out nursing an ankle fracture, the Broncos needed some extra help in the absence of their starting QB.
Head Coach Sean Payton sounded impressed with how quickly E.J. Warner has adjusted during rookie camp. Speaking at a Saturday press conference, Payton mentioned that the young quarterback has handled the transition and new terminology well in a short amount of time.
“He’s done a nice job,” Payton said, according to Broncos Wire. “He’s done a very nice job, especially considering he’s coming off a weekend with different terminology. It’s been real quick for him.”

It's pretty wild because E.J. isn't exactly built like his famous dad. While Kurt is a big 6-foot-2 guy, E.J. stands at 6 feet.
Payton added, "He's just really stood out with getting in and out of the huddle. He has a quick release and a good stroke."
Kurt Warner honestly believes that his son is way smarter on the field than he ever was at that age, as per The Denver Gazette.
Before this tryout, E.J. balled out at Fresno State, putting up 2,030 passing yards and a solid 69.3% completion rate. He even had a 7-3 record at Fresno as a starter last fall, with 13 touchdowns and only 11 interceptions.
E.J. Warner Chiefs Tryouts And Following In His Father's Footsteps
Denver was the second stop on Warner’s post-draft tryout tour. A week before the Broncos tryouts, he was trying to impress Andy Reid, the Head Coach of the Kansas City Chiefs, at their rookie minicamp.
The Chiefs declined to sign Warner despite him showcasing his skills for both Andy Reid and Sean Payton. Two of the most offensive-minded coaches in the league.
Kurt Warner had noted while speaking to the Denver Gazette ahead of his son's Broncos tryouts, "I'm excited. Like so many of these other kids coming out of college, he's just trying to find an opportunity to show people that they can perform at the NFL level."
Furthermore, the way E.J.'s path is developing is reminiscent of his own father. Kurt started his journey in a similar way after going undrafted in 1994. He famously was stocking Iowa grocery shelves before fame struck.
Talking about his son's current grind, Kurt added, "He's in the same place I was in for a long time. Just hoping somebody gives (him) a shot." Like father, like son.
