2022 Mr. Irrelevant, Brock Purdy has silenced the doubters since he became the San Francisco 49ers' starting quarterback. The former final pick is on the verge of reaching a historic milestone that can place him ahead of the NFL's greatest QBs ever.

Purdy has led the 49ers to multiple playoff appearances while consistently delivering elite passing numbers. If he maintains the same level of efficiency, he could exceed both Aaron Rodgers and Lamar Jackson on the league's most notable QB leaderboards.

"I’d say 5 games into the season, Brock will have attempted 147 passes by then, when he hits 147, that gives him 1,500 pass attempts for his NFL career," said Matt Maiocco via X post. "At this pace, as long as those 147 passes go like his previous 1,353 have gone, Brock will be the all-time leading player in NFL history when it comes to passer rating."

According to the projection shared via X post, Purdy has been an efficient passer throughout the first few years of his career. Getting to the top of the list would be a great achievement, especially when Rodgers has been the benchmark for QB efficiency.

Currently, Purdy owns a career passing rating of 104.0 through 1,353 career pass attempts. He needs only 147 attempts more to total 1,500 career attempts. If he is consistent over the first five games, his rating will exceed the current mark of 102.2 set by Rodgers and Jackson.

The former Iowa State player has already built an impressive resumé. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2023, guiding the 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance, and has ranked among the leading players in yards per attempt, completion percentage, and passer efficiency.

Purdy's quick decision-making and accuracy have made him one of the NFL's most productive young QBs. While critics have always credited the 49ers' supporting cast for his success.

While his scores divide opinion across the league, his statistics are becoming difficult to ignore.

NFL analyst positions Brock Purdy among the true franchise players for the team

In 2025, Purdy was the NFL's highest-rated passer on third down and was a light show in the fourth quarter of one-score games. Now he is one of the league's most relevant players entering his fifth pro season.

"Among 270 quarterbacks in NFL history with 1,000 attempts, Purdy is the highest rated with a career rating of 104.0," wrote Brad Gagnon of the Bleacher Report. "Has he benefited from an early-career shock factor as well as Kyle Shanahan's system in a stacked offense? Sure, but numbers are numbers, and his are fabulous."

Gagnon acknowledged that Purdy has benefited from head coach Shanahan's quarterback-friendly offense and supporting cast with stars on both sides of the ball. But those factors can not overshadow his efficiency.

In his four career years, Purdy has completed nearly 68% of his passes, throwing for 11,685 yards and 84 touchdowns. With only 147 more attempts needed, he is on the way to the top position if he maintains his current pace.
