Former Cincinnati and Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby is becoming one of the most-named quarterbacks to watch ahead of the season. Despite the uncertainty surrounding his NCAA future, several NFL franchises are already being linked to the 22-year-old quarterback.
If Sorsby decides to pursue an NFL career, he will need to register his name for the league's supplemental draft by June 22, before teams hit training camp in July. After applying, the NFL will review the draft.
According to a report by DAZN, the three teams that might become a landing spot for Sorsby are the New York Jets, the Cleveland Browns, and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
The Jets brought the veteran Geno Smith from the Raiders for the role of starting QB. But at 35 years old and entering the final year of his contract, Smith might not be in the Jets' long-term plans.
The Jets entered the 2026 draft with a need at quarterback and drafted Clemson's Cade Klubnik in the fourth round. With three first-round picks in 2027, the Jets could go for Sorsby if he officially becomes available.

The Cleveland Browns have also emerged as one of the franchises keeping an eye on Sorsby.
According to a report by ESPN, Cleveland's Tony Grossi stated that the Browns are actively working on Sorsby, which is surprising given the franchise's already crowded QB room.
Cleveland already has Deshaun Watson, Shedeur Sanders, Dillon Gabriel, and rookie Taylen Green on the roster. However, there are ongoing concerns around Watson, Sanders, and Gabriel heading into the season.
And GM Andrew Berry is always looking to add more quarterback talent. With eight picks across the first five rounds of 2027, Cleveland has the capital to make a smart move.
Pittsburgh's 42-year-old Aaron Rodgers is back for another season, but has confirmed that this season will be his last. So, the Steelers need to address the quarterback situation for next season.
New head coach Mike McCarthy, known for developing quarterbacks, could view Sorsby as a reliable option.
At just 22 years old, Sorsby has added a dual-threat dimension with 1,305 rushing yards and 22 rushing touchdowns during his college career. Over the last few seasons, he has established himself as a potential first-round talent for the 2027 NFL Draft.
With teams already vouching for the quarterback, all depends on the NCAA's eventual decision and what Sorsby will do if he is reinstated.
NCAA Denial Continues to Cloud Brendan Sorsby’s Future
Sorsby is in the spotlight after being ruled ineligible following g*******-related concerns. Even after challenging the ruling, the NCAA denied his efforts to get a quick resolution to his reinstatement.
According to a report by ESPN’s Pete Thamel, the NCAA denied Sorsby's request to be reinstated for the 2026 season.
“The NCAA has denied Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby’s request for reinstatement for eligibility for the 2026 season. Sorsby has completed his 35-day in-patient rehab for his g******* addiction at Algamus in Goodyear, Arizona," Thamel wrote.
Later, his lawsuit, filed by attorney Dustin Burrows, asked for an injunction that would allow Sorsby to practice and play for Texas Tech. The QB has to wait till June 1 for the injunction hearing which will decide his future.
Sorsby released a statement on Instagram on May 26, acknowledging everyone who stood beside and supported him throughout.
"If I'm blessed and fortunate enough to have the opportunity to continue my college career at Texas Tech, I know I will get the support I need, including through the school's Center for Students in Addiction Recovery," he said in the statement.
If Sorsby is reinstated by the end of June, he can still return to college football. If not, he may have to shift his focus toward the NFL, where teams are already monitoring his situation closely.
Now that Sorsby has to wait till he gets the clearance, it will be interesting to watch which team he joins or if he returns to his college team.
