After the 2025 Championship heartbreak without their star player, Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix is set to return to the turf as he continues to make strong progress in his recovery to make his way back to training camp.
As per Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network, QB Bo Nix is set to step on the field on the coming Monday, having a successful second procedure on his surgically repaired ankle.
“During his scheduled re-check with Dr. Norman Waldrop last week, #Broncos QB Bo Nix had a successful and anticipated follow-up clean-up procedure on his ankle,” Rapoport wrote in his X post on April 29.
The Senior Bowl Rookie of the Year 2025, Bo Nix, is all set to make a comeback in the 2026 NFL Training camp for the Denver Broncos.
Leading his team to a 33-30 victory in overtime, Nix suffered a season-ending injury while playing against the Buffalo Bills in the divisional round of the AFC playoffs in January 2026.
Two days later, he underwent a repair surgery for his fractured ankle in Birmingham.
"It'll be absolutely no issue this offseason,” said Nix during the post-surgery period. “I'll be able to actually start training back when I was going to start training, so don't miss any time there. I'm going to train really hard."
Since then, Nix has been undergoing rehabilitation procedures at the Broncos' complex, under the care of Dr. Norman Waldrop III at the Andrews Sports Medicine and Orthopedic Center.
During the last visit, Dr. Waldrop cleared Nix to join his team, but under conservative exposure to the game. Now, after the 2026 NFL Draft, Payton has given his two cents on the return.
Broncos Head Coach Gives His Take on Bo Nix's Return
As Bo Nix targets a return to the training camp, reactions from around the league have already started to build, including the team's head coach, Sean Payton.
According to Denver Sports, the news of a successful recheck of the ankle was confirmed this week.
“He’s doing great,” Payton said after the NFL Draft concluded Saturday afternoon. “We’re excited about his progress.”
Zac Stevens of the DNVR also reported the news on his X post.
“Bo Nix and the Broncos’ brass have indicated, if not flat-out said, that Bo will be ready for the offseason program,” Zac Stevens wrote on his official X account on Tuesday night.
Although coach Payton refrained from commenting on how the medical procedure went exactly, Bo Nix is expected to be seen leading the squad in the NFL season.
